Father Martin McVeigh was giving a Powerpoint presentation to 26 parents of pupils at St Mary’s School in Pomeroy, County Tyrone. Parents who attended the meeting last week were “horrified” when the memory stick Father McVeigh inserted into the computer projected graphic sexual images of men rather than instructions on Holy Communion.
A statement issued by the parents present said that after the presentation went awry, Father McVeigh “gave no explanation or apology to the group and bolted out of the room. The co-ordinator and the teachers then continued with the presentation.”
Father Veigh claimed he had no prior knowledge of the pictures displayed, adding that the memory stick was owned by the parish and used by other people.
Although the Police Service of Northern Ireland said there was no immediate evidence a crime had taken place, parents are angry that Father McVeigh has given no explanation for why he left the room for 20 minutes after the incident. They are calling for his suspension while the investigation continues.
