Little Mix, Benedict Cumberbatch, Rita Ora, Cara Delevingne and Susanna Reid nominated

The British LGBT Awards has released its shortlist for the 2019 ceremony with girl band Little Mix, singer Ellie Goulding, Sex And The City actor turned politician Cynthia Nixon and TV personalities Stephen Fry and Susanna Reid all nominated for gongs.

The awards in association with Clifford Chance and NatWest, celebrate the campaigners, community activists and allies who have helped to advance the fight for LGBT+ rights during the past 12 months.

The event, which takes place on Friday 17 May and is the biggest annual gay awards show in Britain’s red carpet calendar, also sees Killing Eve’s Jodie Comer up for the Celebrity Ally award after playing Villanelle in the BBC’s Golden Globe-winning drama. The Ally category also sees Naomi Campbell, Jameela Jamil and Benedict Cumberbatch recognised for their support of the LGBT+ community.

Rylan Clark-Neal joins Gok Wan, Ruby Rose, Gillian Anderson and Cara Delevingne in the LGBT+ Celebrity category.

Without Me singer Halsey, Kesha, Demi Lovato and Rita Ora will battle it out alongside Jaden Smith to be recognised as Music Artist of the year.

Meanwhile, Metropolitan Police Commissioner Cressida Dick is expected to attend the ceremony after being nominated for the high profile Inspirational Leader accolade.

Google, Vodafone, Boohoo and LinkedIn are amongst some of the major organisations vying for prizes on the night.

Sarah Garrett MBE, founder of the British LGBT Awards, said:

“A really broad mix of deserving people and organisations have been nominated in the 2019 British LGBT Awards – it’s our most diverse shortlist yet. From actors to musicians, TV personalities and influencers, the list is an amazing group of role models who have supported the community and shown their commitment to raising awareness and advancing LGBT+ rights.”

Marjorie Strachan, Head of Inclusion, NatWest said:

“NatWest is pleased to continue our partnership with The British LGBT Awards. The awards are about more than recognising the nominees and winners, they are about creating a change in attitudes towards diversity and inclusion in every part of the UK. This is something that we are committed to, and proud to celebrate.”

Narind Singh, Corporate partner at Clifford Chance, said:

“We’re incredibly proud to be the headline sponsor of this year’s British LGBT Awards. Diversity and inclusion is central to our strategy as we believe that that people flourish and perform at their very best in a collegiate and supportive environment. The British LGBT Awards shortlist is packed with inspirational individuals who use their own platforms to promote equality within the workplace and beyond, and we look forward to seeing who is honoured on the night.”

The winners will be announced at a ceremony taking place at the Marriott Grosvenor Square in London on Friday 17 May.

The public are invited to cast their votes for the winners now at britishlgbtawards.com.
