For those looking to join the home ownership club in London it can sometimes seem that the options are pretty bleak. First time buyer options tend to be limited to those lucky enough to have trousered a massive wedge of cash, often from wealthy parents, or to properties where the definition of “London” would make even Ryanair blush.

So when we stumble across properties – one in south London, the other in the west – which, thanks to various government-backed schemes, represent not an unattainable pipe dream but a real possibility of becoming a homeowner, we like to introduce them to you.

Here are two developments which fall firmly into that category:

The Scene, New Cross.

The Scene is a partnership between Peabody and Sherrygreen Homes, currently offering a stylish collection of two bedroom apartments which are available to purchase via London Help to Buy. A selection of Shared Ownership homes are due to launch later this year and a number of duplexes and townhouses will also be joining the collection too. Buyers eager to get their foot on the ladder in a sought-after London location are sure to find a home that ticks all of the boxes.

A borough with one of the highest number of parks and green spaces in London, residents of The Muse will have plenty of walking routes to explore. In addition to Charlottenburg Park the nearby Fordham Park offers a range of activities to the local community from a large play area, to football pitches and table tennis tables. Slightly further afield is Greenwich Park home to 183 acres of open space, including a Wilderness Deer Park, a Tennis Centre and 17th Century landscapes and gardens which date back to the Roman era.

Commuters here are well placed to reach Central London thanks to its Zone 2 location. A variety of cycling routes are accessible, including Quietway 1 connecting Waterloo to Greenwich and a proposal for SuperCycle Highway CS4 has just been submitted, if successful the route will connect Tower Bridge to Greenwich. New Cross Gate Overground station provides links into London Bridge and Highbury & Islington whilst Deptford Station easily connects residents to Blackfriars, London St Pancras and Luton Airport.

Acton Works, Park Royal

Continuing our first time buyer options, this stylish development from our friends at Network Homes will comprise a top-tier selection of one, two, and three-bedroom Shared Ownership apartments; providing the perfect opportunity for home-hunters with an eye for potential to well and truly invest in their future, and make those first important steps onto the property ladder.

Acton Works will benefit from its own podium-level garden; complete with colourful planting, synthetic ground turf, raised planters and lounge benches to encourage relaxation, socialisation, and play. Another key feature of this development is ‘The Street’; an oasis between the two landmark buildings of the scheme – offering a sanctuary of calm and intimacy – away from the urban landscape Acton Lane

Situated on Acton Lane, the scheme will form an integral part of the Old Oak and Park Royal regeneration area. Major investment has been poured into rail infrastructure projects, HS2 and Crossrail, and Park Royal is the only place in London where the two new transport links meet – making it the perfect homing ground for commuters and young professionals.
