FoxGay rights activists in the US are asking companies to drop adverts for Fox News because of the homophobic attitudes of some of its presenters and guests.

Media Matters, GLAAD (Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation), the Courage Campaign and Equality Matters have joined forces to launch the DropFox campaign.

They have started by asking LGBT-friendly travel company Orbitz to pull its Fox ads.

Media Matters describes the purpose of the campaign as holding Fox to account for: “its hate speech, misinformation and other alarming deviations from the usual standards of a news organization. This campaign includes an online ad component to raise awareness about Orbitz’s financial support for Fox News.”

Fox gave Governor Mick Huckabee his own show, despite him having compared homosexuality to drug abuse, incest, pedophilia, and necrophilia.

Fox presenter Bill O’Reilly was allowed to tell viewers of his show that it was dangerous to let gay people go near children; that same-sex marriage may lead to the legalisation of polygamy or marriage to animals; and that the introduction of a hate crime bill would protect paedophiles.
