Decision has sparked outrage from users of the video service.

According to its website, the video sharing service uses community flagging, age-restrictions and other markers to identify and filter out potentially inappropriate content.

“The intention of restricted mode is to filter out mature content,” YouTube said in a statement Sunday. “LGBTQ+ videos are available in restricted mode, but videos that discuss more sensitive issues may not be. We regret any confusion this has caused and are looking into your concerns.”

Following protests from users, including the musicians Tegan and Sara and and gay-rights advocate Tyler Oakley, YouTube tweeted yesterday that it might have made a mistake: “Some videos have been incorrectly labelled and that’s not right. We’re on it! More to come.”
