The 2013 World Pride Power list was unveiled at a gala dinner held at the Corinthia hotel in London last night.

Topping the 2013 list is hit US comic and presenter Ellen Degeneres, moving up from 10th place in the 2012 list.

For the first time nominations were gathered from across the world, making it a true representation of the most influential LGBT people around the globe.

New entries on the 2013 World Pride Power List include the French politician Bertrand Delanoe, the openly gay mayor of Paris at number 68 and Harish Iyer, the Indian gay rights activist at number 71.

Other high profile names on the list include Stephen Fry at number 2 and Sir Elton John at number 6. Stephen Fry recently won the Out In The City Readers’ Award for Broadcaster of the Year.

Jane Lynch, who plays the feisty Cheerios coach on hit TV show Glee, falls two places from the top spot in 2012 to number 3.

Linda Riley, MD of Square Peg Media and judge of the World Pride Power List, said: “When there are still countries around the world who actively discriminate against people based on their sexual orientation, it has never been more important to recognise positive LGBT role models.

“The beauty of the World Pride Power List this year is that all of the individuals have been nominated by members of the public, allowing us to celebrate those people who are positive role models on an international scale.”

The full list has been published in association with The Guardian newspaper, who have published an exclusive supplement on the morning of London’s Pride event.
