massachusettsThe city of Cambridge in Massachusetts is to pay gay public workers a higher rate of pay than their straight counterparts to counter an imbalance in federal tax.

The city has allegedly been searching for a fair solution to the extra $1,500-$3,000 a year which gay couples who add spouses to health insurance are expected to pay.

Gay couples are also barred from immigration rights, receiving survivor benefits, joint tax returns and family leave.

It is hoped that other areas in the country will follow the city’s example.
