Ukrainian-President-Viktor-Yanukovych-Presidential-PalaceA controversial new bill has been proposed in the Ukraine which will make it illegal to be gay or lesbian in public.

Ukraine’s legislature is about to vote on the ‘gag’ bill, which would effectively ban the “propaganda of homosexuality.”

Gay right campaign group AllOut.org have launched a petition, aimed at Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, who has the power to stop the law being passed.  The group say Yanukovych’s number one priority in his role as president is to form a new alliance with the European Union. As officials from Ukraine prepare to meet with an EU delegation on human rights this Friday, AllOut.org want to deliver a petition to the Ukranian president with at least 40, 000 signatures, of which they have just over 20, 000 so far.
