The first out transgender person has been elected to Venezuela’s National Assembly.

Lawyer Tamara Adrián was elected as a member the Popular Will, a left-leaning, pro-LGBT party. She will represent the capital city of Caracas.

Luisa Revilla Urcia, the first openly transgender person elected in Peru, welcomed the election result calling it “a great triumph” for trans people and congratulated Adrián, saying,“We are very pleased with another trans woman in power,” reported the Washington Blade.
