Vicky Beeching will be joining DIVA magazine editorial team with a new monthly column from the next issue.
Shocking her conservative Christian fan base, Beeching came out as gay in 2014 in an interview with The Independent. She now uses her platform to champion LGBT equality and campaigns to make the Church more LGBT-inclusive.
It is unusual for faith voices to be prominent in LGBT publications, so this move is regarded as a bold step by DIVA to welcome progressive thoughts on spirituality.
Commenting on her new role, Beeching said: “I’m delighted to become a columnist for DIVA. It’s an exciting publication to write for; DIVA is Europe’s biggest magazine for lesbian, bisexual and queer women and has been on newsstands for twenty-two years.
“The magazine has had a powerful impact on me personally – before I came out as gay, I subscribed for a year and reading it helped me feel there was a community of like-minded people out there. I look forward to writing on a wide range of topics; from spirituality, to politics, to health and wellbeing.
“Look out for my first column in the September edition.”
Last year Beeching was the first prominently religious person to feature on DIVA’s cover. Editor, Jane Czyzselska, has welcomed the new team member and said she is “thrilled to have Vicky Beeching on board as a new columnist”.
This is the first major announcement since the Twin Media Group purchased the leading lesbian publication in July 2016. As part of an ongoing commitment to the readers of DIVA magazine the publishers have promised a range of new features.
The September issue is on sale from 12 August.
