The UK saw many amazing things in 2012, the Diamond Jubilee, the London Olympics, the announcement of a royal baby but more importantly the launch of the World Pride Power List!

The World Pride Power List, unlike so many other lists of LGBT achievements, spanned the globe and celebrated people from all walks of life no matter where they were based around the world.

This year we are asking you, the LGBT community, to nominate those people who you feel have been most influential, not only in your own life, but also in those areas of the world where being gay is more difficult.

Homosexuality remains illegal in more than 70 countries, with penalties ranging from imprisonment to death. That’s why it’s so important to build a platform and celebrate those who are out, proud and successful now, regardless of the penalty.

The World Pride Power List will be widely publicised to ensure participation from all four corners of the globe to so that no-one who is a positive role model and fighting for equal rights is forgotten.

After receiving the nominations the list will be adjudicated by a panel of esteemed judges who will then authenticate the final rankings.

The list will be published in an exclusive Guardian supplement on the day of the annual pride parade in London, Saturday 29th June, with a celebration breakfast at London’s exclusive Home House.

The World Pride Power List is produced by Square Peg Media, the leading diversity publishing and events company in the UK, in association with The Guardian newspaper.

Last year’s judges include Ben Summerskill, chief executive of Stonewall; Michael Fuller, former managing director of UnitedHealth UK; Linda Riley, managing director of Square Peg Media; and Cuc Vu, chief diversity officer, the Human Rights Campaign.

Ben Summerskill, who will return as a judge this year said: “Young people today are the first generation to have gay people in the public domain as role models. Drawing attention to these role models matters.”

Linda Riley, who will also return as a judge, said: “The importance of the World Pride Power List cannot be underestimated. There are so many people around the world living in the most terrible conditions because of their sexual orientation, and we must celebrate those who are standing up for equal rights.”

The 2012 list can be found and nominations submitted at the World Pride Power List website: www.worldpridepowerlist.com
