We can officially announce that The Guardian newspaper, the world’s leading liberal voice, is the media partner of OutNews Pride Power List.
A long standing supporter of LGBT issues, The Guardian constantly strives to hold its strong relationships within the community and its partnership of the OutNews Pride Power List is just one of the many ways the media outlet is showing its support.
This year we’re asking you to nominate those people who you feel have been most influential, not only in your own life, but also in those areas of the world where being gay is more difficult.
Homosexuality remains illegal in more than 70 countries. That’s why it’s so important to build a platform and celebrate those who are out, proud and successful, regardless of the consequences.
The list will be published in an exclusive Guardian supplement on the day of the annual pride parade in London, Saturday 25 June, with a celebration breakfast at an exclusive London event. It serves to encompass both those fighting for equality and people who are influential role models.
Linda Riley, OutNews Global Director says: “I am delighted that The Guardian will be running a supplement for our OutNews Global Pride Power List – to celebrate the UK’s top 100 influential people from the LGBT+ community as voted for by the public. It will be adjudicated by an advisory panel including myself and the OutNews editor who will consider the merits of all nominees, their achievements as well as their commitment to LGBT equality.”
Speaking ahead of the nominations, AJ Higginson, editor of OutNews added: “The list is vital in highlighting those who are important in promoting LGBT acceptance. It is an important step towards making sure our national culture is as diverse as the world we live in.
“I’m delighted that The Guardian have come on board this year’s awards.”
The public can now cast their votes for each category via the Pride Power List website.
The Guardian will run a series of adverts promoting awareness of the list in a run-up to Pride London.
