Stonewall_bus_campaignThroughout April, 1,000 London double decker buses will carry adverts promoting equality for same-sex marriage, in the largest ever advertising campaign of its kind.

The straightforward ads read ‘Some People Are Gay. Get Over It!’ with a link to Stonewall’s equal marriage campaign website (www.stonewall.org.uk/marriage).

To ensure the campaign reaches outside London, the charity asks that supporters post pictures of buses carrying the advert =onto Stonewall’s Facebook page or tweet them using the hashtag #equalmarriage. A range of merchandise carrying the ‘Some People Are Gay. Get Over It!’ slogan will be sent to whoever sends in the best picture each week until early May, when the campaign ends.

Stonewall Chief Executive Ben Summerskill told PinkPaper: “In recent months Britain has been subjected to vitriolic political campaigning from people who want to impose their 19th-century values on 21st-century society.

“Our very moderate and straightforward campaign – which will be seen by hundreds of thousands of Londoners, and many more people online – will help those who have been offended by anti-equality prejudice to tell the government why equal marriage is important to them.
