Staycations appear to be all the rage for many people at the moment, especially if you’re trying to save any pennies and you’re also keen to explore more of the UK. Whether it’s Scotland’s stunning West Coast or a quaint little seaside town in England, there’s plenty of options too. Not everyone is aware of them, though.
There’s an abundance of activities to do around the British isles. Whether you’re keen to hike up a mountain, eat copious amounts of food, sit around the pool and play casino games with pay safe card options in Canada, or explore a city rich in history, the United Kingdom pretty much has you covered. Yes, the weather can be a tad temperamental at times but usually in the summer – when most people go on holiday – the sun is shining. It’s all about picking the right time of the year, the right destination, and then nailing down the best accommodation.
It isn’t always easy to finalise a holiday plan, though. So, with that in mind, we thought we’d provide you with some staycation inspiration by going through some of the best places to visit in 2020 and beyond.
York, England
With its medieval walls, excellent shops and restaurants, rich history, contemporary sights, lovely cobbled streets and incredibly friendly people, York has become an increasingly popular place to visit in recent times, especially with the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors right on its doorstep. Previously voted as the best place to live in the UK, York has it all. If you haven’t been, go!
Jurassic Coast, England
Stretching from Exmouth in East Devon to Studland Bay in Dorset, the Jurassic coast is a lovely part of England with arguably one of the best stretches of coastline on the planet. From charmingly tacky seaside towns like Swanage to the beautifully historic Lyme Regis, this is a part of the country with plenty to see. It’s teeming with wildlife and natural beauty, too. There’s an array of excellent beaches and brilliant food to try, also. Well worth a visit.
Snowdonia, Wales
Dubbed by many as the New Zealand of the UK, Snowdonia in Wales is the ideal location for people who are wanting to immerse themselves in nature. Boasting the highest mountain in England and Wales, alongside a stunning natural lake which is the largest of its kind in the country, Snowdonia is a place like no other in this part of the world.
Edinburgh, Scotland
Edinburgh has more to offer than most cities, that’s for sure. Scotland’s capital city not only hosts the hugely popular Fringe Festival, but it has a comprehensive selection of excellent bars, pubs and restaurants to visit, alongside its fascinating historical sites. It’s also a great city to visit for whiskey lovers, with an array of top-quality Scottish booze to choose from.
Falmouth, England
In terms of a destination in the UK which provides natural beauty but also fun for friends, family and partners, Cornwall is right up there. In Falmouth, you can try surfing, check out the array of local art, explore nature, visit the National Maritime Museum, or even just do nothing on one of its many superb beaches.
Ballycastle, Northern Ireland
If you’re keen to uncover an Irish gem and escape large crowds in the process, then Ballycastle could well be the place for you. Located in the north-easternmost coastal tip of Ireland, Ballycastle is a road trip favourite thanks to its lovely scenery, great pubs, excellent restaurants and its incredible Kibane Castle.
