holdinghandsTwo Florida schoolgirls have been banned from holding hands and threatened with suspension.

The two girls are both pupils at Blanche Ely High School in Pompano Beach – one a senior and one a junior.

The school Principal saw them holding hands and took them into his office, where he called both the girls’ parents. One of the girls’ mothers was unaware of her daughter’s orientation until the Principal’s call.

The Principal’s actions provoked outrage at the school board meeting on Tuesday.

The school’s Superintendent, Jim Notter, said that his staff were investigating the issue.
