flourbThe principal of Flour Bluff High School in Texas has taken the drastic measure of banning all extracurricular clubs in order to prevent students from forming a Gay-Straight Alliance club.

Seventeen-year-old student Nikki Peet’s request to create the club was not in violation of any rules connected to setting up extra-curricular meetings, so principal James Crenshaw blocked her application by insisting that all clubs meet off school premises for the time being.

Peet’s supporters are saying that the principal’s decision is in contravention of the Equal Access Act 1984, which demands that students should be allowed to form their own extra-curricular groups without discrimination.
