London’s LGBTQI+ community groups come together to celebrate HRH George Michael, qweens, and queer love
London’s LGBTQI+ community groups have put their lovely heads together to hold free party, This is My Culture, remembering queer icon George Michael’s life, talent, and courage in celebrating sexual freedom this royal wedding weekend.
This year marks 20 years since the release of George’s single, Outside, which was his response to being ensnared by a policeman in an LA toilet, arrested for indecency, and subsequently cruelly publicly outed.
“As Meghan Markle and Prince Harry don their crowns and bow down to the Queen, join us for this very special occasion where we celebrate our culture, where public displays of affection are everyone’s duties and we show the world that QUEERS ARE FABULOUS, and we are never going underground,” Dan Glass, of Queer Tours of London, said.
After hundreds gathered on Hampstead Heath (where George lived) last year for the first event, this weekend’s party will take place on the date of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal wedding, providing an alternative celebration of love for the LGBTQI+ community.
On top of that, the event will also raise awareness of the work of The Outside Project, a group which supports and campaigns for homeless LGBTQI+ people. Any profit made on the day will also go straight to the charity.
