Prince William has become first member of the British royal family to publicly condemn homophobia and LGBT bullying.
The prince visited Hammersmith Academy to take part in a session with pupils on how to prevent LGBT bullying, and cyber bullying. During the session, the future King made his views on bullying as a result of sexual orientation clear.
He told students: “I would start on that side [comfort the victim and end up here [confront the bully],” while referring to a chart that was used to describe approaches to combating bullying, Pink News reported.
William attended the workshop as part of his work with the Diana Award – a charity named after his late mother, Princess Diana.
He becomes the first royal to discuss LGBT issues. Although same-sex marriage is legal in all parts of the U.K. except Northern Ireland, not even the Queen has directly mentioned the subject.
