Glamorous launch party at the London Cabaret Club

As reported yesterday in OutNews Global, Sinitta has released what is sure to become 2018’s gay anthem, Shine with Pride, with all proceeds being donated to a range of LGBT good causes.

Confirming her pop royalty status, the So Macho singer conducted proceedings from a gold and velvet throne which Queen Victoria might think was a bit over the top, before whipping off here pink silk robe and taking to the floor to debut her latest single. It is a joyous track (read my review here), leaving one wondering why on God’s green Earth she’s been away for so long. Surrounded by backing dancers who were so attractive and flexible that this correspondent began to feel very old, the 54 year old belied her years with a performance of quality and energy, before introducing us to three of her protegés from whom I have no doubt we will see more of in the future.

The record launch coincided with the issue of Sinitta’s vook – video book – and this is where the fun and laughter of the evening hit the pause button. Excerpts from the vook, Who Put the Sin in Sinitta, told of two occasions where the singer managed to avoid what could have been dreadful sex attacks, one by a man who pinned her down in a bedroom at Simon Cowell’s villa on the French riviera, and another where a senior figure from the music industry who had vowed to help her career exposed himself to her at her London home. Sinitta made reference to more attacks, but did not expand further.

Sinitta is more than a here today, gone tomorrow pop singer. She’s a star and, clearly, a survivor. Let’s hope we don’t have to wait another 27 years for her next record.
