“I’m really looking forward to working with Dawn to bring about genuine, positive change”

It was announced this evening at the eight annual European Diversity Awards that the event founder and publisher of OutNews Global and DIVA magazine, Linda Riley, is to take on an exciting new role as lead on Dawn Butler’s brand new LGBT+ diversity board.

Shadow Secretary of State for Women and Equalities Dawn Butler gave a moving speech at tonight’s event, in which she made this exciting revelation.

Linda Riley commented:

“I’m unbelievably honoured to have been appointed to lead Dawn Butler’s brand new LGBT+ diversity board. Dawn’s commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion is unrivalled and I’m really looking forward to working with her to bring about genuine, positive change.”

It’s safe to say that the guests and Linda Riley herself were thrilled with the news. Butler spoke about Riley’s experiences growing up on a Stockwell council estate raised by Armenian immigrant parents and how they helped her become the champion of diversity and inclusion she is today.

The MP for Brent Central also used the opportunity to speak about the importance of tonight’s awards:

“Even today in some parts of Europe the rights of LGBT+ people are being stripped back. Women and BAME people are still finding it hard to progress in many workplaces… And here in the UK, young working class kids are being denied access to education, employment or training because their postcode isn’t posh enough or because they can’t afford to pay extortionate fees.”
