The runner-up in the World’s Strongest Man competition has revealed that he is gay. Rob Kearney, who won second place in the 2014 competition is the first Strongman to come out at a professional, international level.
Kearney told the Huffington Post that he no longer wanted to hide who he was, and came out for his boyfriend of two months, Joey Aleixo, calling himself “sort of a romantic”.
Describing the reaction of the public and others around him, Kearney explained that he had received support from his Strongman ‘family’ who have no issue with him being gay. He continued, “To be completely honest, I never would’ve thought it would have turned out to be this big… It has been an overwhelmingly positive experience.”
