dreamstime_xs_18933343The Office for National Statistics has published information on the formation and dissolution of civil partnerships in Northern Ireland, Scotland and the UK in 2010.

 

The numbers are provisional.

 

The ONS found:

The provisional number of civil partnerships in the UK in 2010 was 6,385, an increase of 1.7 per cent since 2009

For the first time in the UK in 2010 more female than male civil partnerships were formed

The average (mean) age of men forming a civil partnership in the UK in 2010 was 40.6 years. For women the average age was 38.4 years

The provisional number of civil partnership dissolutions granted in the UK in 2010 was 509. There were more women than men dissolving a civil partnership in all countries in 2010. In England and Wales, 60 per cent of civil partnerships dissolved in 2010 were to female couples. The corresponding figures for Scotland and Northern Ireland were 56 per cent and 67 per cent respectively.
