Despite the USA’s overriding stance on gay marriage, President Obama has sent a letter of congratulations to newlywed Matt Katz and his husband. The couple appreciate Obama’s letter of support, but have no idea why it was sent, as they have never had any contact with the White House.
Katz told news site Buzzfeed: “I’m not sure why the letter got sent to us. Aaron and I were married on July 24th at Borough Hall. However, we had our wedding ceremony on July 23rd at my dad’s house the day before. Maybe word got out that we were outlaws for a day?”
It’s possible that a relative sent a wedding invitation to the White House which prompted the response letter from the President.
