obamasmallThe Obama administration has announced that the US will do more to aid the promotion of gay rights around the world.

The announcement on Tuesday vowed to actively combat efforts by other nations that criminalise homosexual conduct, abuse gay men, lesbians, bisexuals or transgendered people, or ignore abuse against them.

They have declared to use foreign assistance, international diplomacy and political asylum to promote gay rights abroad.

The statement was made by President Barack Obama in a memorandum and by Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton in a speech to the U.N. Human rights Council in Geneva.

Clinton said “Gay people are born into and belong to every society in the world, being gay is not a Western invention. It is a human reality.”

Obama add in a statement “The struggle to end discrimination against lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender persons is a global challenge, and one that is central to the United States’ commitment to promoting human rights,”
