ugandanflag‘BN’, a resident of the London borough of Hammersmith and Fulham since 2002, continues her appeal to remain in the country after successfully being granted a last minute injunction on 28 January.

Her case was being considered at the Court of Appeal yesterday afternoon, with judgement still pending. Although in accordance with her previous court experience with the UK Border Agency, the judge ruled that the woman known as ‘BN’ failed to produce enough evidence to support the fact that she was a lesbian. A UK Border Agency spokesman told the Guardian that, “An immigration judge found on the evidence before them that BN was not homosexual”. With this as a precursor, it is quite possible that she will be sent back to Uganda, a country in which homosexuality is illegal and homosexuals are often persecuted and even killed.

Her case has received widespread support from the LGBT community and Andy Slaughter, MP for Hammersmith, has fought hard for her right to remain in the UK. After the injunction was granted he scheduled a motion at the House of Commons on 2 February, as well as writing to immigration minister Damian Green, asking him to suspend the deportation.
