All our favourite moments from this incredible (and inclusive) event.
So the MTV Movie and TV Awards happened and they were epic. This year MTV really mixed things up, bringing the ceremony firmly into the 21st century, and judging by the overwhelmingly positive reactions on social media, it was the perfect move to make.
One of our favourite moments of the star-studded night has to be when Moonlight actors, Jharrel Jerome and Ashton Sanders, won the trophy for Best Kiss, beating the likes of Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling for their lip-lock in La La Land. Bucking the trend for recreating their award-winning kiss onstage, Jharrel and Ashton instead seized this opportunity to speak out about the significance of this award.
“This award is bigger than Jharrel and I. This represents more than a kiss. This is for those who feel like the others, the misfits; this represents us.”
The last same-sex couple to win the coveted title was Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger for Brokeback Mountain over ten years ago in 2006.

This year for the first time, MTV added television to the event. The dedicated queens among us were delighted when the inaugural award for Best Reality Competition went to RuPaul’s Drag Race.
Another new addition was MTV’s first ever gender-neutral acting award. Emma Watson took the prize for Best Actor in a Movie for her portrayal of Belle in Beauty And The Beast. In her acceptance speech she said:
“MTV’s move to create a genderless award for acting will mean something different to everyone. But, to me, it indicates that acting is about the ability to put yourself in someone else’s shoes, and that doesn’t need to be separated into two different categories.”
She was presented the award by Asia Kate Dillon, star of Billions and Orange Is The New Black and the first gender non-binary actor to play a non-binary role on TV.

Our final favourite moment? When Cara Delevingne debuted her bleached, shaved head look on the red carpet and looked sensational.

We can’t wait to see what’s in store next year.
