obamasmallU.S. Congressman Trent Franks has said that he’d support impeaching President Obama over his decision on gay marriage.

Obama recently decided not to support the Defense of Marriage Act, which defines marriage as being between a man and a woman and bans the legal recognition of same-sex marriages by federal agencies.

Franks, an Arizona Republican, is the first elected official to call for an enquiry into whether the President should be impeached for changing his position on the marriage law.

The opponent of gay marriage made these comments in a video interview with Scott Keyes of anti-right wing blog ‘Think Progress’.

Franks, who was interviewed at the Tea Party Patriots Policy Summit in Phoenix, said that he would support “in a moment” removing funding from the Department of Justice for the decision and that he would “absolutely” support impeaching Obama.

New York Democrat Congressman Jerrold Nadler said, “I am shocked by Chairman Franks’ reckless call to impeach President Obama, and I call upon the House Republican leadership to take impeachment off the table”.
