madonna-jan-2012-giMadonna has refused to cancel her concerts in St. Petersburg, Russia, despite an introduction of an anti-gay law, but vowed to speak up for the Russian gay community.

In an email to Bloomberg Businessweek, the superstar and gay icon said “I will come to St. Petersburg to speak up for the gay community and to give strength and inspiration to anyone who is or feels oppressed. I’m a freedom fighter. I don’t run away from adversity. I will speak during my show about this ridiculous atrocity.”

The anti-gay bill, which was signed into law last month, bans lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered propaganda that could give minors “the false perception that traditional and non-traditional relationships are socially equal.” Anyone caught breaking this law faces fines of up to £10,625.
