newyorkCouncil speaker Christine Quinn is hoping to be the first openly gay mayor in the city’s history.

She has managed to raise almost double what her opponent has raised in the bid to become New York’s mayor in 2013.

She has racked up $1.32 million in her fundraising efforts, and it proves the faith her supporters have in her. Last week was the deadline for fundraising and if she continues on this roll it’s likely she will raise around $6.4 million for primary fundraising which is the limit for the mayoral competition.

After New York’s recent decision to let same sex couples marry, it would be perfect timing for a gay woman to be elected.
