Screen_shot_2012-03-20_at_17.32.59Macho team sports aren’t as homophobic as you’d think. In Canada, where gay marriage was legalised in 2004, two women got engaged on an ice hockey rink during a game reported Yahoo Sports.

A Toronto Maple Leafs fan named Alicia was taken onto the ice during the intermission wearing a blindfold. When the blindfold was removed, she looked at a video scoreboard with a message from her girlfriend, a fan of an opposing team, Ottawa Senators, named Christina.

The message said: “My love for you is a journey, starting at forever and ending at never. You’re my world.”

Christina then came onto the ice, hugged her girlfriend, got down on one knee and slid the engagement ring onto Alicia’s hand. After the couple shared a kiss, the Senators mascot raised a sign that declared: “SHE SAID YES” as the crowd roared applause.
