Katie Hopkins asks leading lesbian magazine for assistance in legal case against Jack Monroe.
The Mail Online columnist is being sued by Monroe over a vandalism accusation.
Last year Monroe was accused of sympathising with the vandalisation of a war memorial but Hopkins later said that she had confused the food blogger with another writer.
In what appears to be a case of mistaken identity, Hopkins tweeted saying “scrawled on any memorials recently? Vandalised the memory of those who fought for your freedom. Grandma got any more medals?”
Hopkins soon realised her mistake and deleted the tweet but it was too little too late for Monroe.
For reasons best known to herself, Hopkins has opened Pandora’s box by instructing her legal team to contact DIVA magazine for assistance in the case. Monroe is currently on a sabbatical from writing for the publication.
The leading lesbian and bisexual magazine for women in the UK published articles relating to Hopkins’ ongoing Twitter war with chef and author, Monroe.
Strange then, that in this day and age, the legal firm would address the recipient of the email enquiry for help as “Dear Sirs”, as DIVA is wholly owned by two lesbians. Surely we have moved on from gender bias?
It also seems that Hopkins may have bitten off more than she can chew as Linda Riley, publisher of DIVA, was quick to defend Monroe in her reply.
Speaking about the legal letter from Kingsley Napley, Riley said:
“If I were to do a straw-poll amongst our readership on who they think are the most despicable people in the UK , I can only imagine how highly Katie Hopkins would score! So it really beggars belief that you would expect our assistance.”
She added: “Katie Hopkins’ heavyweight legal team have outrageously asked DIVA magazine for assistance in their case defending the lawsuit brought on by Jack Monroe, we will not be giving our ‘assistance’ nor will they gag us from speaking out by asking us to keep the contents of their letter quiet. The fact is Katie Hopkins got her tweets about our columnist, Jack Monroe, absolutely wrong. It is only right that she is called out on this and we wish Jack Monroe all the best in their case against Miss Hopkins .”
But the semi-professional motormouth now faces the daunting prospect of being forced to say sorry not only to Jack Monroe, but to the team at DIVA for dragging them in to the debacle.
