WOW Air, known for its low-cost flights, have named their latest aircraft TF-GAY in a show of support for the LGBT community.

The Icelandic airline company have announced that their new Airbus A330-300 will cover the route from Reykjavik to San Francisco.

WOW Air CEO Skuli Mogensen told GayIceland.is: “WOW Air is an airline for the people and one of our most important goals is to lower fares in order to enable everybody to travel the world and get to know different cultures.

“We wholeheartedly support queer people’s fight for rights. Just as we support equal rights for everybody, no matter their gender, religion, ethnicity or culture.”

The plane will join WOW’s existing ‘family’ of aircraft, which have names like TF-MOM, TF-DAD, TF-SIS.

Mogensen revealed that the TF-GAY registration number was suggested by one of the airline’s pilots.

He said: “I immediately thought it was a great idea and fitted with our approach to using words relating to family members in the spirit of inclusiveness.

“We think TF-GAY fits right in with our modern family concept.”

The airline already flies to nearly two dozen destinations in Europe and North America, including London, New York and Montreal.

In addition to San Francisco, Los Angeles will be added to its route map in June.

The CEO believes it’s all part of supporting gay people’s rights.

“By making it possible for everybody to travel with us, we’ll hopefully manage to make the world slightly smaller, and better.”
