Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart are to reunite on stage for national tour of No Man’s Land, which will culminate in a West End run.

The production – first staged on Broadway in 2014 – will tour four theatres across the UK from August 3 to September 3, before a limited run at Wyndham’s Theatre in the West End from September 8 to December 17.

The last time the legendary actors shared a West End stage was in 2013 when they played Estragon and Vladimir in Samuel Beckett’s Waiting for Godot.

Sean Mathias returns to direct Harold Pinter’s No Man’s Land, which will have design by Stephen Brimson Lewis and lighting design by Peter Kaczorowski.

Stewart said he saw the original 1975 staging of the play three times in one week, “and would have seen it more if I could have afforded the tickets”.

He continued: “I made a promise to myself that one day I would play Spooner or Hirst but to be doing it back at Wyndham’s with Ian McKellen was a fantasy I never entertained.”

McKellen added: “Playing Spooner to Patrick’s Hirst on Broadway was a constant joy, which is why I am delighted to be back with him in the West End.”

No Man’s Land is produced in the UK by Stuart Thompson, Flying Freehold Productions and Playful Productions.

The UK tour will visit the Lyceum Theatre in Sheffield, Newcastle Theatre Royal, the New Theatre in Cardiff and Theatre Royal Brighton.
