An county clerk in Kentucky who continually refused to issue marriage licences to gay couples has been taken into custody.

Kim Davis was found guilty of contempt of court and was remanded in custody by federal marshals. The clerk from Rowan County claims that her religious beliefs prevent her from issuing marriage licenses to gay couples.

US District Judge, Dave Bunning, ruled that Davis be remanded in custody until she complies with several orders, including one issued by him, that she stop discriminating against same-sex couples.

Davis told reporters that she was “prepared to go to jail” over the issue.
