dominica1Two men from California were arrested aboard a cruise ship on the Caribbean island of Dominica for having sex.

The men, both in their early 40s, were allegedly arrested on suspicion of sodomy and indecent exposure, after someone reported having seen them engaging in sex from the ships dock, reported the Associated Press.

Gay sex is illegal on the island of Dominica and punishable with a $370 fine and up to six months in jail.

The men, identified as John Robert Hart and Dennis Jay Mayer by Dominica News Online, were on a cruise organized by Atlantis Events, a Southern Californian company which specialises in gay travel.

‘We’re waiting to see what happens,’ Atlantic Events President Rich Campbell told the Associated Press, but Campbell expects that the two men will only face misdemeanour charges.

Sources told the Associated Press that passengers ‘were informed of the laws of Dominica and they were well aware that their acts would be considered a criminal offense.’
