Balbir_KrishanAn Indian artist has been attacked for holding an exhibition on homosexual relationships in the capital city of New Delhi.

Openly gay artist Balbir Krishan, 38, pictured talking to CNN-IBN, was attacked by a masked assailant at the New Delhi’s Lalit Kala Akademi gallery, and several of his paintings on display were damaged.

The Times of India newspaper reported that Krishan, a double amputee who walks with prosthetic legs was “pushed and kicked” and had also received threatening phone calls accusing him of “spreading” homosexuality in India.

Balbir claimed it was also threatened that he would be hounded out of the country for his explicit art, just as late painter MF Husain, one of India’s most famous artists, left the country in 2006 in self-imposed exile.
