newjerseySeven gay couples in New Jersey plan to descend on a court in a bid to force the state to recognise same-sex marriage.

They say the state’s civil union law has failed to do what it was designed to do, and offer gay couples the same rights and protection as opposite-sex married couples.

One of the complainants says he was prevented from making medical decisions for his partner. Another says she was forced to go through an extensive and complicated legal process in order to adopt her partner’s child.

Just days ago, New Jersey’s Governer Chris Christie insisted publicly that the state would not be following New York’s example and legalising gay marriage.
