Since their launch just over two years ago, the Proud Hornets have become an integral part of Watford FC of the English Premier League, with a memorable rainbow mosaic in the Rookery Stand making national and international headlines in December 2018, while the group received an award from the FSA’s ‘Fans For Diversity’ campaign late last year.

“I’m pleased to become a patron for the Proud Hornets and to be an ally for our fans from the LGBT community,” said Deeney. “For me, this shows our club is once again leading the way in its work with equality and diversity and it was an honour to be asked.”

Ward added: “I’m delighted to accept the Proud Hornets’ invitation to become their patron. It’s so important that we continue to stand together as one club and promote a united front against every type of discrimination.”

Both Troy and Helen met with Callum Jewell from the Proud Hornets last year, and the three of them discussed their experiences of discrimination ahead of the Rainbow Laces matchday. You can catch up with the conversation by watching the video below.
