attenbergFacebook has apologised for removing an advert depicting two women touching tongues.

Sweden’s Triart films wished to use the networking platform to publicise their film ‘Attenberg’ but found the site had ‘disapproved’ their image. “Our ad for ‘Attenberg,’ using the poster image of two women touching tongues, has been DISAPPROVED,” an upset spokesperson said in a statement on their Facebook Page.

The distribution company had previously used the site to market ‘Tre’, a film advertised by an image of a heterosexual kiss. Funnily enough this faced no objection from the site and was deemed ‘fine’.

Facebook failed to admit a case of homophobic censorship and attributed the ad’s removal to an error “Upon investigation, we concluded the advertisement does not violate our guidelines and was removed in error,” said Andrew Noyes, Manager, Public Policy Communications at Facebook.

“The ad is now running and we apologize for the inconvenience”
