Facebook bosses have updated the ‘relationship icons’ on the social networking site to reflect same-sex marriages, with two female bride icons and two male groom icons.

Wedding_Rings Previously, the marriages of gay couples were marked by a straight bride and groom. Since last year, the social network giant has allowed couples the relationship option of being in civil unions and domestic partnerships depending on their country.

Facebook was the first social network to receive a GLAAD media award following the move, which GLAAD said sent a “clear message in support of gay and lesbian couples to users across the globe”.
