“A song can be remembered forever but it cannot replace a loved one.”

At a recent concert, Sir Elton John paid a moving tribute to the victims of the horrific Manchester and London terrorist attacks.

Performing at the Derby 3aaa County Ground, (as reported in the Derby Telegraph) he addressed the crowds:

“It would be remiss of me to not mention these events,” he began.

“It was a tragic and awful thing to happen. We live in really strange times. A song can be remembered forever but it cannot replace a loved one.”

He then sang his hit song, I Want Love, dedicating it to all the victims of the attacks.

It has been confirmed that 22 people lost their lives during the attack on the Ariana Grande concert in Manchester and 8 people died during the London Bridge attack. Many more were injured.

This was only Elton’s second show since he recovered from a potentially deadly bacterial infection at the end of April.

He also used the opportunity to pay a special tribute to his dearly departed friend George Michael, who died last year. Elton sang Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me in remembrance of George.
