A new gay character in Albert Square is due to arrive in the form of 15-year-old Ben Mitchell, who will shock his dad Phil by confessing that he is gay.
Ben, played by Joshua Pascoe is the third EastEnders character to be revealed as gay, after the relationship between Syed Masood (Marc Elliot) and Christian Clarke (John Partridge) came out in 2009.
Phil has long despaired of Ben’s preference for musicals over more masculine pursuits.
An EastEnders source told The Mirror: “No one could anticipate the chain of events this will spark around Walford as Ben tries to keep his sexuality secret from his father. Poor Ben is terrified of Phil’s reaction but the truth will come out, sooner or later.”
