Phillip Schofield: “It’s not an issue with the children, it’s an issue with you. You’re the ones that have the problem, not the children.”

Nigel and Sally Rowe have attracted criticism for their decision to remove their son from school because of his transgender classmate who was allowed to wear a dress.

The couple, who are now educating their two children at home in the Isle of Wight, claim that their rights as Christians were not being respected by the Church of England primary school.

Nigel expressed his binary viewpoint in a video for Christian Concern: “We believe it is wrong to encourage very young children to embrace transgenderism. Boys are boys and girls are girls.”

The Rowes went on ITV’s This Morning to talk about their decision to sue the school.

They spoke to presenters Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield, describing being transgender as “species dysphoria” and questioning if the school would also allow its students “to dress as animals”, claiming:

“It comes down to being a child, and the statistic is that 98% of people who got like that when they were younger turned out not to feel like that when they were older.”

Schofield astutely observed:

“It’s not an issue with the children, it’s an issue with you. You’re the ones that have the problem, not the children.”

People took to Twitter to express their dismay at the couple, noting that attitudes like this could lead to LGBT children being bullied at school.

In an article in The Daily Mail, it was revealed that the couple are being represented by Paul Diamond, a lawyer who specialises in religious discrimination, in their plan to sue the school. They are also being supported by the Christian Legal Centre.
