Stephen Port murdered four men he met on gay networking sites by giving them a fatal dose of the drug GHB, a jury has heard.

The chef is alleged to have filmed himself having sex with the young men after spiking them with a cocktail of drugs, from poppers to Viagra, Meow Meow, Tiny and GHB.

Jurors were told Port, 41, invited his victims to his flat in Barking, east London, where he plied them with high doses of the party drug GHB so he could have sex with them while they were unconscious.

Jonathan Rees QC, prosecuting, said Port had carried out sex attacks on 12 young men over three-and-a-half years, including the four who died.

Those four were Anthony Walgate, 23, from Hull; Gabriel Kovari, 22, from Lewisham in south London; Daniel Whitworth, 21, from Gravesend in Kent; and 25-year-old Jack Taylor from Dagenham, east London.

Mr Rees said: “The prosecution say it is a case about a man – the defendant – who in the pursuit of nothing more than his own sexual gratification, variously drugged, sexually assaulted and in four cases killed young gay men he had invited back to his flat.”

After the men died he dumped three of the bodies in a nearby churchyard and one outside his block of flats.

Of the eight other victims who survived, it is alleged that five were raped after being drugged and one was the victim of other sexual activity.

Port denies four counts of murder, four alternative counts of manslaughter, ten counts of administering a substance with intent, seven counts of rape and four counts of assault by penetration.

The trial continues.
