The Lesbian and Gay Foundation’s “Are You Ready for Screen Test?” campaign has won the top award at the Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust 2011 Cervical Screening Awards.

The campaign aimed at raising awareness to urge lesbian and bisexual women to take cervical screening tests used famous films and humour to help get the message across.

Annie Emery Programmes Manager for The Lesbian & Gay Foundation said: “We are absolutely thrilled to get this award and national recognition from Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust.”

“Countless lives have been put at risk for years because of the myth that lesbian and bisexual women don’t need cervical screening.”

The campaign was run in partnership with the University of Salford and was funded by the NHS Cervical Screening Programme.

Judges for the awards said that they were “hugely impressed” by the campaign, and described it as “Innovative, creative and very well targeted.”
