earthA kiss-in was staged at the Nigerian embassy in London to protest against new anti-gay laws.

New laws stipulate three years in prison for an individual who enters into a same-sex marriage, and five years and fines for anyone who “witnesses, abet and aids” a same-sex
marriage.

The kiss-in is being organised by Nigerian LGBTs in the Diaspora Against Anti-Same-Sex Laws, currently Nigerians engaging in homosexual acts can face up to 14 years in prison, and gay marriage is not recognised there.

Yemisi Ilesanmi, coordinator of the protest said: “Outside the embassy, Nigerian LGBT people
and our allies will hold hands, hug and kiss as a gesture of defiance against the proposed ban
on same-sex marriage and in solidarity with our Nigerian LGBT brothers and sister.”

“The new Nigerian bill aims to further criminalise same sex relationships.”

“In some parts of the country there is the death penalty under Sharia law.”

The kiss in took place yesterday afternoon at Nigeria house, the group presented the ambassador with a formal position statement.
