In a poll by the Equality Project, Britney Spears has been named the ultimate gay icon of all time.
The pop star won 31% of the vote, placing her ahead of competitors Lady Gaga, Barack Obama and Cher. Madonna was a close second with 25% of the vote and Lady Gaga, who is considered to be the most influential gay rights advocate in the world, came third.
The Equality Project’s Joel Waddell predicts that Madonna will take the top spot when she releases a new album. Waddell called her “the greatest icon the gay community has ever had”.
