Britney Spears’ debut single “…Baby One More Time” has been named as the greatest ever debut single by Rolling Stone Magazine.
A bored schoolgirl absent-mindedly beats out 4/4 time against the leg of her desk, her pencil drumming on her exercise book. The minute hand of the classroom clock clicks to the top of the hour, the bell rings and one of the most recognisable intros in pop history makes a star out of a pretty 17 year old singer from Kentucky.
Fast forward 22 years and the venerable Rolling Stone magazine has named Britney Spears “…Baby One More Time” as number one in their rundown of the 100 greatest debut singles evs., beating off competition from the likes of Elvis Presley, The Sex Pistols and The Ramones.
