The British ambassador to Poland, Her Excellency Anna Clunes, has joined fifty other ambassadors and dignitaries in calling on the government of Poland to honour their commitment to equal rights and reaffirm those rights in respect of Poland’s LGBTQ+ community.

Ms Clunes was joined by representatives of EU member states, the USA and many others in their condemnation, demanding that the Polish government “shield communities in need of protection from verbal and physical abuse and hate speech, we need to jointly work on an environment of non-discrimination, tolerance and mutual acceptance.”

The British Embassy’s Tweet.

Despite consistently falling foul of EU equal rights legislation, the government of Poland – together with a number of local authorities – are openly antagonistic to LGBTQ+ rights, with some areas even declaring themselves LGBT-free zones.
