brightonThere’s just six weeks to go until Stonewall’s annual Brighton Equality Walk returns  on 6 May 2012. Taking part not only means you’ll be supporting LGBT equality by raising funds for Stonewall, but you’ll also be in with the chance of winning a luxury weekend for two in Paris, including travel on the Eurostar and accommodation in a top hotel!

Whether you like Brighton’s seafront, its winding lanes, vibrant culture or the healthy sea air that surrounds the city, Stonewall’s Brighton Equality Walk has something to offer everyone who takes part.

Now in its ninth year, the Walk supports the gay equality charity’s Education for All programme which works to make schools a safe and supportive environment for children from all families. The Walk returns to Brighton on Bank Holiday Sunday 6 May, and last year attracted over 500 people, all walking for gay equality. The Walk is supported by American Express and media partners g3 and Out in the City.

Joining Stonewall at the starting line this year are hosts The Only Way is Essex star Harry Derbidge and Casualty’s Jane Hazlegrove. Jane, who was named Stonewall ‘Entertainer of the Year’ in 2011, says: ‘I’m delighted to host Stonewall’s Brighton Equality Walk. School should be the best years of any child’s life, but homophobic bullying ruins it for so many. Taking part in the Walk will directly help Stonewall to make school a safe environment for all children – and is a fantastic opportunity for individuals, families and friends to spend a Bank Holiday in Brighton.’

Registration for the Walk is now open, and it costs just £10. On the day, walkers can take part in a pre-walk picnic, before heading through the heart of Brighton on the 10k walk taking in the Pavilion, the Clock Tower and the Palace Pier, followed by a post-walk party. Every walker will receive a commemorative T-shirt and there’s even a glass of bubbly when you cross the finish line. And there’s good news if you’re a mum or dad, as under-12s can walk free.
“The Brighton Equality Walk is great way to spend a May Bank Holiday Sunday – you can walk on your own, with your friends, family or as part of a group from work. You not only get to see Brighton you also get to relax with hundreds of other walkers having raised vital funds for Stonewall’s work,” says Catherine Bosworth, Stonewall Director of Fundraising.
Competitive fundraisers are catered for too – with prizes for the Top Fundraiser and the Top Fundraising Team. A luxury weekend for two in Paris – complete with Eurostar travel and spending money – is up for grabs for the Top Fundraiser. The Top Team is hotly contested every year, with EYGLES – the network group from Ernst & Young, Stonewall’s 2012 Employer of the Year – scooping the title in 2011.
